Jan's inspiration comes from the fun of seeing the shapes develop on the canvas - from a bit of chaos moving into larger than life forms and pictures. Paintings start in a fairly loose, organic way – the big canvases are developed through shapes of light and dark and she prefers oil paints for the deep richness of the colours that can be created.
Painting seriously since 2004, Jan's skills have developed from tuition with several different artists, learning techniques for floral, portrait, abstract and landscape painting. An early career in map making and survey draughting where cartographic skills including calligraphy were developed also helped Jan to see and create form in her work.
She has sold work through direct commissions, exhibitions, word of mouth and charity auctions.
